PhoneGap Build can be used with Phonegap Plugins ?
PhoneGap Build : I want to use PhoneGap Build to build on both Android & iOS my phonegap App. My problem is that I include Zxing Project (QR Code Reader) which is compiled differently depending if I use Android or iOS... How Can I manage that ? Perhaps I must create 2 different PhoneGap Build project ? Perhaps it is simply impossible using PhoneGap Project to use PhoneGap plugins like Zxing ? Thanks for any feedback. Ivan (France :-p)

Hi all,
Sorry not to respond sooner - I only get notifications for Get Satisfaction threads that are new, or that I've already responded to. As I hadn't responded to this one, I wasn't seeing the responses.
Plugin support is on the roadmap for this quarter (Q1 2012).
We had an initial implementation of plugins - allowing arbitrary code to be included in PG Build apps - eight or nine months ago. A few users were able to try these out, but unfortunately bugs and security issues meant we had to rethink our approach.
Our plan is to support plugins on a case-by-case basis - popular plugins will be available on PhoneGap Build for all supported platforms. If you've developed a plugin you want to share with others, there will be a process for getting it in our system. If you've developed a plugin for your own apps, or your company's apps, we will also have a mechanism for that (that may be part of a paid plan).
Over the last few months Nitobi - the company who developed PhoneGap Build - has been acquired, with significant upheaval to PhoneGap Build and the PhoneGap open source project. Additionally, half the engineering team (me) has relocated to a different country. This has significantly impacted our development process, and delayed a whole bunch of things we wanted to do.
Last month we rolled out support for multiple PhoneGap versions on PhoneGap Build - this was a big refactor, and an important step towards getting plugin support in. We should have something on this path to announce in the next few weeks.
Cheers,
Andrew -
As I've mentioned before @lawgurl's and @Gregory's wrath cannot be considered as an answer. That's their mileage and I totally respect that.
However, there hasn't been an official reply, from PhoneGap since "5 months".
And we are patiently waiting for some authority from PhoneGap to give us a definitive ETA.
So
i. Either PhoneGap does not have a distinct time plan about this;
ii. Or the issue is not a high priority for them;
iii. Or they do not care about people asking about an ETA.
iv. Or all of the above.
I repeat myself:
In my honest opinion, in either case, PhoneGap apeears to lack the guts to spare 5 minutes and provide an "authoritative", "crisp" and "clear" answer, with a distinct "time frame".
If that's too complex to comprehend, let me simplify:
Dear PhoneGap,
Will we be seeing this feature implemented in the next century? -
The replys are vague, old and frankly... untrue up to this point. Having a roadmap which is actually followed is extremely important since it impacts our very own strategy and development timelines.
Taking 5 minutes out of the teams day once a month should not have an impact on implementing new features. No disrespect to the team, I'm certain they are working long hours, but this thread seems to in indicate the importance of said feature and given the above, a true estimate is being requested.

We have plugin support in the pipeline for Android, iOS and BlackBerry. Android and iOS plugins are available, but we are still dogfooding it to make sure it works properly.
I'll update this thread when it becomes more publicly available :) -

ok thanks... Ok for me to be beta tester of any BarCode Phonegap plud-in integration with phonegap Build as soon as it will ba available !

Any chance that this will be available (at least for android) within the next 1-2 weeks?

EMPLOYEE
1This will not be available until after we roll out billing, which is slated for the fall. -
-
Are plugins available now with PhoneGap Build and PhoneGap 1.0? I'm particularly interested in the Android plugins.

ability to integrate plugins on-the-fly would be "awesome".

Plugin support would be amazing, and is there any notes on what the billing will be like?

*Bump* :)
A simple reply will work... "Yes", "No", "Soon", "6 weeks", "6 months", "6 Years", "No Comment"-
"Fil Maj (Official Rep) 4 months ago

How difficult can it be to give an answer on this? Billing has already rolled out so does that mean that the plugins are ready?
How do we access and make use of the plugins?
If there were plugins available I'd sign up immediately without hesitation... -

Any news? Would like to use push support with Urban Airship, using plugin....
-
-
Could someone from the Phonegap-team give an update on when this will be implemented, please?
-

Would be interesting know if that still in the roadmap for fall or will be released in 2012?

This clearly shows the level of engagement of the PhoneGap team with their user-base.
I also am a part of a start-up, and I can understand that the team may have more important issues to resolve than listening to their users, AND that's an option, with its consequences.
I'd very much appreciate an "authoritative", "crisp" and "clear" answer, giving a distinct "time frame", from PhoneGap on this issue.
If it's not in your future plans, have some guts to admit that.
We are the community, you know.
And we are your community, just in case you haven't recognized already. -

linkibol, there are replies from PhoneGap employees above. I see them as having very good engagement with their user-base.
Would you rather they were replying to this thread every day to keep you happy, or actually working on implementing the new features so you can have plugins in PHoneGap:Build? -
-

Thank you @Gregory; and that's not the answer to my question :)
-
-
Does today's 1.3 release for PhoneGap include the ability to use plugins with PhoneGap build??
-

It would be really great to get some feedback and an ETA on this. If we knew when to expect it, it would help a lot in planning. If this feature has been dropped then it would be really nice to know.

2WoW! How impatient are you people around here! If its so important to you, test and try out ways to implement the plugins you desire instead of waiting for an answer.
Sometimes trial and error is better than sitting around twiddling your thumbs until someone is able, has the proper information, and or time to answer your questions which have been answered already.
Though the answers may not be to your satisfaction, the fact that an answer has been given should be enough until sufficient information and guidance is available for delivery...
Geeze! People... Can we get a little respect and patience around here? Seriously!!!

At the risk of incurring the wrath of lawgurl and gregory marler, I would like to ask, in the politest, most gentle, respectful and patient way possible, whether there is any news about plugin support for PG:Build. An ETA of some sort?
I am getting a lot of Application Craft users begging me for this. So I thought I'd ask as well. -

@linkibol - I will say that my experiences with Phonegap so far have been exceptionally positive. I have had a really great response from all members of the team without exception.
I guess that the dynamic has changed a little now that they are a part of Adobe. However, I have had strong assurances from people in Phonegap that they will be delivering plugin support and that it is a priority. I, too, have had not any definitive dates which I could really do with, especially as Application Craft has a boat load of customers who are clamoring for plugin support in PG:Build
As a result of the great support Application Craft has had from Phonegap in the last couple of months on various levels (specifically Brian Leroux, Hardeep Shoker and Andrew Lunny) I am very much inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt.
I have had assurances from them that they will remain a friendly force and that their pre-acquisition philosophies and intentions are not altered post-acquisition and I am inclined to believe them. I hope I don't end up with egg on my face now that I have made these public statements :)
I think patience is called for during the next few weeks. If there is no new at all by March, maybe we should all politely inquire again. -

@Freddy
That's good to hear.
This issue does not affect me too much, since we've implemented our our automated build mechanisim using a mixture of gearman and remote procedure calls to our build API. Yet, an answer from PhoneGap would be kind of them none the less.
Having been in a startup going through a similar acquisition several years ago, I know and understand how vague things can get, and how priorities shift in those times.
We'll wait for the dust to settle, I guess ;)
Cheers. -

@linkibol - I would like to touch base with you on a couple of items if you have time. Perhaps you can email me your contact details to fmay at applicationcraft com or skype freddymay

awesome any plug in's that do facebook, twitter and foursquare stuff would make my day.

..And get a list of all installed apps that can navigate to a set of coordinates.. Like GeoGoggle, Maps, Navigation etc.. :-)

Thanks Andrew - good to know that plugins are still planned for PG Build. And welcome to California!

Thanks Andrew. I'd love to see the roadmap for the specific plugins - i suspect webview would solve a whole bunch of people's problems.

Really thanks Andrew! single sign-on plugins for twitter facebook & google would make us very happy!

I'm super excited about the idea of a barcode scanner plugin for Phonegap Build. I hope we are getting close. Does anyone know any workarounds until it is available?

Hi Andrew,
Is the plugin support, Facebook specifically, still on track for Q1? if so can we expect this in 1 week or 5 weeks?
I understand if you can't make a firm commitment but any information you can give will be very helpful. We've been waiting over 7 months and can only delay for a few weeks longer.
Thanks in advance

Andrew,
Is there a list of plugins that will be supported initially and are you still on track for Q1 (ie end of March) delivery date?
Thx.

All,
Brian Leroux of Phonegap informed me that plugin support was officially rolled out on 2/21 as indicated at https://build.phonegap.com/blog/child...
The roadmap through the end of Q2 is available at http://wiki.apache.org/cordova/Roadma... -
-
Guys, any update on this at all?
I've just started to include the BarcodeScanner plugin - but would also like to use UrbanAirship push notification support too if possible.
At the moment I've setup an environment for each platform that I'm using but submitting to PhoneGap Build would be awesome! -

I've started another thread for this topic that can be found here:
