Sporadic Splash Screen Failures

I've been having sporadic issues with splash screens for a several weeks now, and have now hit the point in development where I need to figure out what is going on.

When I do a new build, there's about a 50/50 chance whether the splash screens will appear or be replaced by the default image. Sometimes both iOS and Android work, and other times one platform works and the other does not. In each build, the only config.xml I am changing is the application version number. At times, I can do a rebuild without uploading a new version and this will clear up the issue but it has not always worked.

My ApplicationID is 77739 and the issue seems to have occurred across multiple PhoneGap versions (definitely 1.6 and 1.7, possibly 1.5 as well).

Any idea what might be wrong? I don't know that my config.xml is perfect, but the fact that the behavior changes with no real difference in config.xml leads me to believe its something on the build side.
